Key Characteristics:

Prepaid Debit Gift Cards (Open-Loop)

Prepaid debit gift cards, also called open-loop gift cards, are branded with a major payment network (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, or Discover) and can be used at any merchant that accepts that payment network.

Key Characteristics:

Fee Awareness: Unlike most retail store gift cards, open-loop prepaid gift cards often come with a purchase fee. This fee is separate from the card's loaded value. For example, a $50 Visa gift card might cost $54.95, where $4.95 is the purchase fee. Always check the fee structure before buying.

Digital / E-Gift Cards

Digital gift cards (also called e-gift cards) are delivered electronically, usually via email or text message, rather than as a physical plastic card.
